Tumescent Liposuction
The most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S., liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat that has not responded to diet and exercise from areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, love handles, thighs, chin, neck, back and upper arms. Targeting areas that have not responded completely to diet and exercise can help one to regain his or her perfect silhouette. Dr. Batra uses only local anesthesia, with the tumescent liposuction technique. With this method, tiny incisions are made in as inconspicuous places as possible. These sites are used to instill a very dilute anesthetic solution to numb the treatment area and dilute the fat so it can be more easily removed through fine tubes called microcannulas. These small tubes are used to break up the fat layer and suction it out. The procedure can last anywhere from one to five hours depending on the amount of fat being removed.
After the procedure, a patient has to wear a tight-fitting compression garment for at least one week. The anesthetic fluid will drain over 48-72 hours, after which the patient can gradually resume all usual activities.
