Is a Chemical Peel Right for You?

Dr. Batra 1.9.13 (2)Chemical peels are performed in the office and are applied in order to slough the top layer of skin. They can address a number of skin issues, including acne, precancerous lesions, texture changes and wrinkles. Many of our patients significantly benefit from them.

Obagi Blue Radiance Peel: This mild-medium strength salicylic acid-based peel is perfect to brighten up your skin after just one treatment. It addresses mild sun damage and freckles by effectively exfoliating the upper layers of your skin. It requires about 3-5 days of downtime where your skin will be dry.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels: This is a medium strength chemical peel that is usually recommended as a series of 3 treatments about 4-6 weeks apart. We love this peel for restoring the youthful glow to your skin and always recommend it as a refreshing treatment before a big event. It involves about 5-7 days of dry, flaking skin after the treatment with limited sun exposure.

Vi Peel: This is our most popular peel! People love our Vi Peel because it addresses a little bit of everything. Vi Peel is indicated to improve acne as well as lightening acne scarring. It will help with fine lines and wrinkles to rewind your aging skin. This peel requires about 7 days of downtime that includes significant snake-like peeling of the skin with little to no sun exposure.

Lightening Peel: The Lightening Peel is a rising star at Batra Dermatology. Its ingredients are hand-selected to target pigmented lesions from scarring, sun spots, melasma, or freckles. We recommend it to any patients who have brown spots that refuse to go away with topical treatments alone. The downtime is similar to that of the Vi Peel with about 7 days of significant peeling with little to no sun exposure.

Cosmelan MD: This is the peel for your stubborn melasma spots (pregnancy mask). Many of our patients suffer from melasma, causing hyperpigmentation on their upper lip, cheeks, and forehead. This prescription-strength mask is designed to lighten skin affected by the melasma condition. It also involves about 7 days of significant peeling with little sun exposure.
